About the Brand
Who is Buick?
Buick is an unusual case: an American marque whose centre of gravity moved to China. Built by SAIC-GM in Shanghai, it sells far more cars in China than in North America, and the GL8 MPV has been the default Chinese business and airport-transfer vehicle for two decades. The Chinese range also includes sedans, crossovers and the Electra family of EVs that have no North American equivalent.
General Motors supplies its own overseas markets from its regional plants, and the Buick range built in China is engineered for Chinese buyers. In practice Buick barely exists as a retail brand outside China and North America. A China-built Buick is a China-market car, with China emissions certification and Chinese-language infotainment, and those are the details that determine registration in your country.
General Motors does not run a China export programme for third-party traders, and the Chinese Buick range is built for Chinese customers. Units bought in China and shipped abroad move through China's parallel-export channel. That is legal in the right corridors, but the factory warranty and dealer support in your market will not necessarily apply, and parts for China-only models like the GL8 need a plan of their own — we set all of that out before you commit.
