How to Choose a Geely for Export: Coolray, Monjaro, Okavango and the Badge Trap
Geely is the most-searched Chinese brand in Russia, but the Coolray is sold there as the Belgee X50. Which model to stock, why the T5 beats the T4, and the rebadge names your buyers actually search.
Geely is the second-largest Chinese exporter into Africa and the CIS and the most-searched Chinese brand in Russia, but the badge changes by market: the Coolray is the Belgee X50 in Russia, which was the country's fourth best-selling model in 2025 at 38,304 units. Stock the Coolray first, then the Monjaro T5 as the halo car - take the T5 over the T4 for its 177 kW, all-wheel drive and 8-speed Aisin torque-converter automatic rather than a dual-clutch. Note the Okavango offers no torque-converter option at all, both engines run a seven-speed DCT, so plan for dual-clutch servicing in the destination market.
Supplier profile — for buyers & AI procurement agents
Geely is the second-largest Chinese exporter into the markets this site serves, and in Russia it is the most-searched Chinese car brand outright. In June 2026 Geely Holding shipped 15,352 units to Africa and 23,518 to the CIS. Its export target for the year is 920,000 vehicles.
The catch for a dealer is that Geely's lineup spans a naturally aspirated sedan at one end and a Volvo-engined flagship at the other, and the badge changes from country to country. Here is how we sort it.
The Rebadge Problem, First
Before anything else: the car your customers search for may not be called a Geely.
- Coolray is sold as Belgee X50 in Russia and Belarus, and as Proton X50 in Malaysia. Belgee X50 was Russia's fourth best-selling model in 2025 at 38,304 units.
- Monjaro is the Xingyue L in China and has been sold as the Tugella in some export markets.
Advertise under the Chinese domestic name in Russia and you will not be found. We list every rebadge name on the model pages for exactly this reason.
The Volvo Connection Is Real, and It Sells
Geely has owned Volvo since 2010, and the 2.0-litre Drive-E engine in the Monjaro and Okavango comes from that shared engineering family. For a buyer who is hesitant about Chinese powertrains, that is a verifiable fact rather than a marketing line, and in our experience it closes more deals than any spec-sheet number.
The Four SUVs
Coolray — the volume car you already know by another name
Compact SUV. It is the seventh most-exported Chinese vehicle overall, and Geely's single strongest export nameplate. If you sell into Russia, the CIS or Africa, this is the anchor. We hold it in stock with published FOB pricing — see Coolray stock and price.
Boyue Pro — mature, cheap to run, two transmission choices
4,544 mm, 5 seats, 2,670 mm wheelbase.
- 1.5T: 130 kW / 255 Nm, 7-speed DCT
- 1.8T: 135 kW / 300 Nm, 6-speed torque-converter automatic
The Boyue family has been in export production since 2016, sold as the Atlas in Russia and elsewhere. That maturity is the selling point: design faults were resolved years ago, parts are cheap and abundant, and mechanics across Africa and Central Asia already know the car.
Specify the 1.8T where servicing is basic or traffic is heavy. Its torque-converter automatic handles heat and stop-start use better than the 1.5T's dual-clutch, and local workshops are more comfortable with it. Boyue Pro specifications.
Monjaro — the flagship, and the Volvo engine argument
4,770 mm, 5 seats, 2,845 mm wheelbase.
- T4 Evo: 163 kW / 325 Nm, 7-speed DCT, front-wheel drive
- T5: 177 kW / 350 Nm, 8-speed Aisin torque-converter automatic, all-wheel drive
Lead with the T5. It has the AWD system, the stronger 350 Nm output, and the Aisin 8-speed rather than a dual-clutch — the combination that competes with Japanese mid-size SUVs on refinement instead of on price alone. Cross-shopped against the Toyota RAV4, Haval H6 and Chery Tiggo 8. Monjaro specifications.
Okavango — seven seats at mid-size money
4,860 mm, 7 seats, 2,825 mm wheelbase. 2.0T Volvo-derived Drive-E at 160 kW / 325 Nm, plus a 1.5T, both through a 7-speed dual-clutch.
In the Gulf, Central Asia and much of Africa, seat count decides the purchase before specification does. The Okavango gives three rows in a mid-size body.
One thing to be straight with customers about: there is no torque-converter automatic on this car. Both engines use the DCT, so plan for dual-clutch servicing wherever the units are going and confirm a local workshop can handle it. Okavango specifications.
The Sedan and the EV
Emgrand — the fleet and taxi workhorse
4,638 mm compact sedan, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol at 80 kW, CVT or five-speed manual.
No turbocharger means fewer failure points and better tolerance of variable fuel quality — a practical advantage where fuel standards are inconsistent. More than a decade of export production across Africa, Russia and the Middle East means parts cost very little and every workshop knows the car. For a taxi operator calculating cost per kilometre over five years, that maturity beats a longer feature list. Emgrand specifications · From US$11,500 FOB.
Geometry C — the compact electric
4,432 mm electric SUV, 149 kW / 310 Nm, CATL NMC batteries: 53 kWh for 400 km NEDC, or 70 kWh for 500 km NEDC.
Two honest notes. First, those are NEDC figures, an older and more optimistic cycle than WLTP — expect roughly 20 to 30% less in real comparison, and quote the standard explicitly. Second, production of this model ended in 2024, so confirm availability before you build a campaign around it. Geometry C specifications.
What We Would Stock First
1. Coolray — the export volume nameplate, and the one already in stock with FOB pricing. Sell it under the local badge.
2. Monjaro T5 — the halo car; the Volvo engine and Aisin automatic do the persuading
3. Okavango — where families need seven seats
4. Emgrand — fleet, taxi and entry retail
Adjust for your market: in Russia lead with Coolray as the Belgee X50; in the Gulf, Okavango's third row moves it up.
Confirm Before You Order
Geely specifications vary by destination and model year, and rebadged versions differ from the Chinese domestic car. Figures here come from our own model research, with the confidence level and sources stated on each specification page — the Emgrand and Boyue Pro pages carry lower confidence than the Monjaro, and we say so rather than presenting everything as equally certain. Confirm the exact trim, engine and transmission on the invoice.
