About the Brand
Who is Audi?
Audi is Volkswagen Group's premium brand and one of the longest-established foreign marques in China, where it has been building cars with FAW since 1988 and more recently with SAIC. The China-built range is not the same as the European one: most sedans and SUVs get a stretched long-wheelbase body for rear-seat space, and several models such as the A7L and the new AUDI E5 Sportback exist only in China.
Audi sells worldwide, but it supplies its overseas markets from its own plants in Germany, Hungary, Mexico and elsewhere. The cars built in China are engineered and homologated for Chinese buyers, so a China-built Audi is a China-market car — its equipment, emissions certification and infotainment are set up for that market, and those are the details that decide whether it can be registered where you are.
Audi does not run a China export programme — it supplies its overseas markets from its own European and Mexican plants, and its China-built cars are made for Chinese customers. Units bought in China and shipped abroad therefore move through China's parallel-export channel. That is legal in the right corridors, but the factory warranty, software updates and dealer after-sales support in your country will not necessarily apply, and we tell you exactly where you stand before you commit.
