Where the BYD Dolphin sits in the market

The Dolphin is BYD's compact electric hatchback and the entry point to the brand for most export markets. It sits below the Atto 3 on price and size, uses the same Blade LFP battery technology, and is offered with four different pack sizes so the same car can be specified as a cheap city runabout or a 400 km commuter.

BYD retails it officially across Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Japan, South Africa and several smaller markets. For a dealer, its appeal is straightforward: it is the least expensive way to put a credible, factory-warranted Chinese EV in a showroom, and it competes with the MG4, Dongfeng Nammi and Wuling Bingo rather than with premium models. Where BYD has an official distributor the retail channel is already taken, so the opening for an independent importer is in markets BYD has not entered directly.

Which version are you quoting?

A facelifted China-market car arrived in 2025 with a longer 4,280 mm body and BYD's God's Eye C driver-assistance package. Export cars have historically used the 4,290 mm global body.

For a dealer testing electric demand, the 44.9 kWh car is the usual choice: around 400 km NEDC, a real motorway-capable 130 kW motor, and a landed cost well below a compact SUV. The 30.72 kWh entry car is cheaper but is a China-market specification with limited homologation outside Asia. If your customers drive between cities, quote the 60.48 kWh version instead, which is the one certified to 427 km WLTP in Europe.
Is the Dolphin sold officially in my market already? +
BYD retails the Dolphin directly in much of Europe, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, South Africa and several other countries. Where an official distributor exists, you would be competing with the manufacturer's own channel and the factory warranty follows that channel, not a parallel unit.
