Kia Sonet
Why this model
What makes the Kia Sonet worth importing
Under four metres
At 3,995 mm the Sonet is deliberately sized below the four-metre threshold that determines tax brackets in India and several other markets — a design decision with direct commercial consequences.
Diesel option available
A 1.5-litre diesel alongside the petrol engines, which matters in markets where diesel is cheaper or where buyers expect it in an SUV.
Kia's networks in emerging markets
The Sonet was designed for India and similar markets, so Kia's dealer and parts infrastructure for it is strongest exactly where it sells.
Manual gearboxes offered
Manual transmissions across most of the range, which suits markets where they remain preferred and where automatic servicing is costly.
Specifications
Kia Sonet technical data
Manufacturer figures for the China-market car. Equipment and certification vary by trim, production batch and destination — we confirm the exact build sheet before the order is placed.
| Version | Power | Torque | Range | 0–100 | Drive |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0L turbo petrol ICE · manual / DCT | — | — | — | — | FWD |
| 1.2L petrol ICE · manual | — | — | — | — | FWD |
| 1.5L diesel ICE · manual / automatic | — | — | — | — | FWD |
A dash means the manufacturer does not publish that figure for this version — we do not estimate it. Range standards differ: CLTC and NEDC read higher than WLTP for the same car, so compare like with like when quoting against a European rival.

About this model
Where the Kia Sonet sits in the market
The Sonet is Kia's subcompact SUV, designed primarily for India and similar markets and deliberately sized at 3,995 mm to sit below the four-metre tax threshold that shapes pricing in several countries. It offers 1.0-litre turbo and 1.2-litre petrol engines plus a 1.5-litre diesel, with manual and automatic transmissions.
An important sourcing note: while Yueda Kia assembles it at Yancheng, the Sonet is fundamentally an Indian-market product and Indian production serves most export markets. For many destinations the Indian-built car will be officially supported by Kia with warranty, cheaper on duty under regional agreements, and easier to service. Check that route before assuming Chinese sourcing is the right one — for this particular model it often is not.
Primarily an Indian-market model, also assembled at Yancheng by Yueda Kia. Indian production is the main source for most export markets.
Before you order
What an importer must know about the Kia Sonet
LHD and RHD both exist given the Indian market. Important: the Sonet is primarily an Indian-market model, and Indian production is officially supported by Kia in most export markets with warranty and established parts channels — for this model, Indian sourcing is frequently the better commercial route than Chinese. Compare both before ordering. Chinese assembly at Yancheng exists but has a much smaller role. Diesel emissions certification should be confirmed for your destination if quoting the 1.5-litre diesel.
Market fit
Where the Kia Sonet sells
Based on documented export presence and how the vehicle suits local conditions — not a guarantee of homologation, which we confirm per market before you order.
South Asia
The Sonet's home market region, with Indian production, official Kia support and existing service infrastructure.
Africa
Subcompact SUV demand with the diesel option suiting fuel availability and Kia's continental parts presence.
Middle East
Entry SUV demand with Kia's strong Gulf networks, though Indian-built cars may be the better route.
Southeast Asia
Compact footprint suits dense cities, though check whether Indian or Indonesian sourcing serves better on duty.
