Compare both. Kia builds the Sportage in Korea, Slovakia, Mexico and China, and the non-Chinese cars are officially supported with dealer warranty in most markets. The Chinese car is cheaper ex-works but carries no warranty. For fleet buyers where capital cost limits fleet size the Chinese car can work; for private customers expecting Kia's service backing, usually not.

What is CVVD and does it matter? +

Continuously Variable Valve Duration — Kia's system that adjusts how long the valves stay open, not just when they open. It lets the same engine optimise for efficiency at light load and power under demand. Practically it is why a 1.5-litre produces 200 hp while remaining reasonably economical. It also means the engine is more complex than a conventional one, which is worth knowing for servicing.

Is the 8-speed automatic better than a CVT? +

For most export markets, yes. A torque-converter automatic handles heat, towing and hard use better than a CVT, and local workshops are more familiar with servicing them. CVTs can be perfectly reliable but they make buyers nervous in markets where they have a poor reputation, and specialist servicing is harder to find. It is a genuine selling point worth mentioning.
