Where the Haval Jolion sits in the market

The Jolion is Great Wall's compact SUV and, unusually, a model built primarily for export — it was sold in China for a single year before becoming an overseas-focused product. At 4,472 mm on a 2,700 mm wheelbase it sits directly against the Chery Tiggo 7, MG ZS and Toyota Corolla Cross, with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and a 140 kW DHT hybrid producing 375 Nm.

Its export credentials are unusually strong: assembly in China, Russia, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, with retail in Australia, South Africa, Mexico, the Philippines, Vietnam and parts of Europe. For a dealer, this is a car designed around what export customers want rather than a domestic model shipped abroad, and the hybrid version competes credibly with Japanese rivals on both economy and torque.

LHD standard; GWM sells right-hand-drive Jolion officially in Australia, South Africa, Thailand and Sri Lanka, so factory RHD exists — confirm which variants are available in RHD before quoting. Note the 2024 facelift re-rated the 1.5T from 110 kW to 105 kW, so figures quoted from older material may not match the car delivered. With assembly in seven countries, check whether GWM has a plant or distributor in your destination before committing, since that determines both competition and warranty coverage.

Is the hybrid Jolion worth the extra cost over the petrol? +
In most markets, yes. The DHT hybrid produces 140 kW and 375 Nm against 105 kW and 210 Nm for the current petrol car, so it is both quicker and more economical. It needs no charging infrastructure because it charges its own 1.6 kWh battery. The payback depends on local fuel prices and duty treatment of hybrids — several markets tax them more favourably, which can close the price gap entirely.
Why was the Jolion barely sold in China? +
Great Wall positioned it as an export product. It was offered in China during 2021 and then concentrated on overseas markets, where it fills the compact-SUV slot below the H6. That is an advantage for an importer: the specification, equipment levels and homologation work were all done with export buyers in mind rather than adapted afterwards from a domestic car.
