SAIC MG4 EV
Why this model
What makes the MG4 EV worth importing
Genuinely established in Europe
Over 13,000 units sold in Germany alone in 2023. WLTP certification and a real European service network already exist, which no other Chinese hatchback in this class can claim to the same degree.
Rear-wheel drive on the first generation
Unusual and desirable at this price. It gives better balance and traction than the front-drive rivals, and it is why the MG4 reviewed so well in Europe.
MG is a familiar badge
SAIC owns MG, and in the UK, Australia, India, Thailand and the Gulf the name carries decades of recognition. That removes the brand obstacle that slows every other Chinese import.
Assembled in several countries
SAIC builds MG products in China, Thailand, India, Indonesia and elsewhere, so regional homologation and parts networks are established.

A dash means the manufacturer does not publish that figure for this version — we do not estimate it. Range standards differ: CLTC and NEDC read higher than WLTP for the same car, so compare like with like when quoting against a European rival.

About this model
Where the MG4 EV sits in the market
The MG4 is SAIC's compact electric hatchback and one of the genuine success stories of Chinese electric vehicles in Europe — over 13,000 sold in Germany alone in 2023. The first generation (2022–2025) is a 4,287 mm rear-wheel-drive hatchback with LFP and NMC batteries from 51 to 77 kWh giving 350 to 520 km WLTP, plus a 320 kW XPower all-wheel-drive version. The second generation from July 2025 switches to front-wheel drive with smaller 42.8 and 53.9 kWh LFP packs.
The MG badge is the commercial advantage. SAIC bought the name, and in the UK, Australia, India, Thailand and the Gulf it carries recognition no new Chinese brand can buy. Combined with European WLTP certification and assembly in several countries, this is the most straightforward Chinese electric car to import into an established market — though it also means SAIC's own distributors already cover many of them.
Second generation from July 2025 moved to front-wheel drive with smaller LFP and semi-solid-state packs. The first generation (2022–2025) is rear-wheel drive with much larger batteries — a genuinely different car, so confirm which you are quoting.
Before you order
What an importer must know about the MG4 EV
Both LHD and RHD available — MG supplies right-hand drive to the UK, Australia, Thailand and other markets. Confirmed markets include Europe, the UK, Australia, several Asian markets, Mexico and the Middle East, with assembly in China, Thailand, India and Indonesia. Because SAIC has its own distributor network in most of these, check whether your destination is covered before committing — factory warranty follows that channel. Critical: the two generations differ fundamentally (RWD with up to 77 kWh versus FWD with up to 53.9 kWh), so state which one every quote covers.
Market fit
Where the MG4 EV sells
Based on documented export presence and how the vehicle suits local conditions — not a guarantee of homologation, which we confirm per market before you order.
Europe and Eastern Europe
WLTP certification exists and the model already sells in volume; eastward markets can reference that approval.
Southeast Asia
Thai assembly and MG's strong regional brand presence; RHD available in several markets.
Middle East
MG is a well-established badge across the GCC with existing dealer networks.
Latin America
Mexico is a confirmed market and MG has been expanding across the region.
